I can answer two of those things.

> Clocks
Coolboyman signed onto Newgrounds and submitted quite a few movies. At one point, he submitted the letter A out of boredom. This got blammed. Then he signed on under StrawberryClock and submitted a B on August 15th. The B caught on surprisingly well. A few users turned into clocks and joined in with StrawberryClock to start the Clock Crew, which now consists of literally thousands of clocks. Now we celebrate Clock Day, which is every August 15th (or, some of us do, anyway). I personally enjoy the Clock Crew. While it's true that most of them simply spam, they spam a lot less than other Newgrounds groups... And some of their movies are very well-done and funny. If you ask me, clocks are like any other Newgrounds user, just with a different appearance.

> Star Syndicate
The Clock Crew inspired a lot of other groups to pop up (Lock Legion, Glock Group, Kitty Krew, etc) and the Star Syndicate was one of them. They spam the portal a LOT, most of the time, sometimes stealing Review Crew Picks. There are some very amazing animators in the Star Syndicate, however. I believe rtil and ZekeySpaceyLizard are in the SS (unless I'm thinking of something else, although I don't think I am). Unlike most of the groups on Newgrounds, SS movies don't actually consist of characters based on their group name (like the Clock Crew has Clocks). Really, I don't recall a time I've seen an SS movie with star characters.

The Star Syndicate is alright. Probably the best group there is becuase they can actually animate.
As for the penis jokes... There's just too many 12 year old kiddies who don't quite understand what the penis is actually for ;]

A: They're much like the clocks. However, they're better at flash and are pretty offending to some. Unlike the clocks, they actually know how to piss you off.
